Global PMI (purchasing managers’ index) data indicated a near-stagnation of the manufacturing economy in April. Activity in the UK’s manufacturing industry contracted in April for the first time since 2013, while manufacturing growth in Ireland slowed to a two and a half year low, with output, new orders and employment all posting weaker growth.
